Portland, Oregon at Night

Portland, Oregon at Night

featuring Pieces of a Dream's "Enmascarada"

Although it is the largest city in Oregon, Portland feels surprisingly intimate, thanks to its land-use planning, natural spaces, and implementation of light rail and bicycle routes. Though its economy centers on its port and its many technology companies, Portland might be better known as a cultural capital. The area is known nationally for its relaxed attitudes and focus on the creative and culinary arts.

This eScapes scene presents a nighttime view of the city, including its many waterfronts. The distinctive clock tower building is the Jackson Tower, a former newspaper office built in 1912 and one of the more recognizable structures in Portland’s cityscape.

Pieces of a Dream formed as a trio in Philadelphia in 1976, rising to fame with the help of saxophone great Grover Washington, Jr. The band draws its name from Pieces of Dreams, a 70s jazz piece the band covered regularly. Now a duo, but still a thriving jazz act with R&B and funk influences, Pieces of a Dream has released more than a dozen albums.
